After Michael van Gerwens World Cup row with Adrian Lewis, we look back at five more memorable bust-ups on the oche. Burning rivalries often boil over in the heat of battle and Lewis and Van Gerwen exchanged angry words after England defeated the Netherlands in last Sundays final in Frankfurt. This was just the latest fall-out in front of the cameras as players regularly lose their cool in the world of darts... Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright, 2015 Premier League Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright traded angry words after draw World No 1 Van Gerwen could not conceal his irritation after he was held to a 6-6 draw by Wright on a Premier League trip to Exeter. In a brash display of showmanship, Wright had played to the crowd before throwing his dart at double 20, only to miss his intended target. Grow up you big baby! Its about entertaining a crowd. Peter Wright Van Gerwen would win the leg, but made a costly miss himself shortly afterwards and vented his frustration at Snakebite after battling back to win the final leg and a share of the points. What that guy does has nothing to do with darts, Van Gerwen said. He does it on purpose. Hes not a professional.Wright responded: Grow up you big baby! Its about entertaining a crowd.Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld, 2012 World Championship Taylor and Van Barneveld briefly became embroiled in a physical altercation Taylor admitted he was ashamed after his semi-final over Van Barneveld was overshadowed by a heated post-match argument. After landing his winning dart, Taylor exchanged a strong handshake with Van Barneveld that sparked a brief bout of pushing and shoving. I am ashamed of myself and I feel terrible. Phil Taylor Speaking afterwards, Taylor told Sky Sports: Its upset me of course it has. To put the record straight, Raymond is a very strong lad and when he shook my hand and pulled me, he hurt me a little bit. That was all it was and I reacted, to be honest with you, disgracefully. I am ashamed of myself and I feel terrible.Justin Pipe v Kevin Painter, 2012 World Grand Prix Justin Pipe infuriated Kevin Painter with his frenzied celebration in Dublin Pipe also expressed remorse after his wild celebrations drew an angry reaction from Painter in Dublin. The Taunton man, who is a former boxer, punched the air repeatedly in delight after his quarter-final win, leaving Painter to wait for the customary post-match hand shake. Painter was far from amused with Pipes impromptu display of gymnastics An enraged Painter patted Pipe strongly on the back of the head and issued an angry rebuke, but the West Country player ignored his opponents displeasure and treated the crowd to his trademark break dance celebration. In the aftermath of his victory, Pipe used social media to convey an apology to Painter for his raucous behaviour.Paul Nicholson v Phil Taylor, 2011 UK Open  Paul Nicholsons winning gesture aggravated Phil Taylor Branded the Bad Boy of darts, Nicholson lived up to his notoriety at the end of an exciting encounter with Taylor in the last-16.Nicholson completed a 9-8 win and then appeared to mockingly bid farewell to Taylor, waving to the crowd as The Power went to collect his equipment. Nicholson pleaded his innocence after fierce criticism from The Power Taylor later described Nicholsons conduct as disrespectful, but The Asset insisted his gesture should not have been viewed as an antagonistic send-off.Adrian Lewis v Peter Manley, 2006 World Championship  Adrian Lewis stormed off stage after losing his cool in match with Peter Manley Manley was considered a master of mind games and an exasperated Lewis marched off stage during their bad-tempered quarter-final at the Circus Tavern.Lewis had become increasingly riled as One Dart slowed down the tempo of the match, pausing after a failed attempt at a double. One Dart Manley made his point to Lewis at the Circus Tavern Harsh words were exchanged after Lewis complained to referee Russ Bray and Jackpot then made a swift exit from the stage while trailing 3-1.Bray persuaded Lewis to resume the match, but Manley would have the final word as he completed a 5-3 victory. He hopes one swing will turn things around. LaRoche broke out of a July slump with a tiebreaking home run in the seventh, Anthony Rendon had three hits and the Washington Nationals rallied to beat the Colorado Rockies 7-4 on Tuesday night. It was the Nationals fourth straight win and increased their NL East Division lead to two games over Atlanta, which lost to Miami on Tuesday. The win might have come at a cost after third baseman Ryan Zimmerman left the game in the sixth inning with a strained right hamstring. He is scheduled to have an MRI done Wednesday morning. "Its pretty sore tonight. Get the MRI, get some results tomorrow and see where were at," manager Matt Williams said. "Its concerning. Anytime you have to leave the game with a hamstring injury its concerning." Zimmerman missed 44 games with a fractured right thumb earlier this season but has played well since coming off the disabled list on June 3. "Hes swinging great, playing great, but we have to deal with it," Williams said. "Well see how he feels tomorrow and what the doctors say." Ian Desmond followed Mondays 5-for-5 performance with hits in his first two at-bats Tuesday for Washington. He was hit by a pitch in the sixth to reach base safely in eight consecutive plate appearances. The streak ended when he struck out in the seventh, but the Nationals had taken control on LaRoches three-run homer off reliever Rex Brothers. It was LaRoches first home run off a lefthander since May 28, 2013. "You swing hard enough enough times youre bound to run into somethings. Ive been playing long enough to know a lot of times it takes one swing," LaRoche said. "Ive been in a rut for a little while, my timings been out of whack, so this came at a good time." Nolan Arenado and Corey Dickerson homered for the Rockies, who have lost seven straight and remain tied with Texas for the worst record in the majors. Before the game the Rockies placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip flexor strain and recalled left-hander Yohan Flande. Tuloowitzki is the third Colorado player in two days to hit the disabled list.dddddddddddd First baseman Justin Morneau (neck) and reliever Boone Logan (diverticulitis) were put on the DL on Monday, adding to the long list of Rockies out of action. "Its unfortunate, its what Im dealt with, Ive been dealt many, many things in my career," Tulowitzki said. "This is just a bump in the road." Flande started well before faltering in the sixth. He allowed four runs on five hits and walked two in 5 1-3 innings. He left with a 4-2 lead and runners on the corners, but Colorados bullpen couldnt hold it. Zimmerman made it 4-3 with a fielders choice but left the game after hitting the first base bag hard trying to beat out his grounder. "Guys just coming back from the DL, getting his swing back and you hate to see that," LaRoche said. "Cross our fingers its nothing major." Wilson Ramos tied the game with an infield single, and then the Nationals broke it open in the seventh. Brooks Brown (0-1) walked Denard Span and Rendon singled. Brothers relieved Brown one out later and LaRoche pulled a 93-mph fastball into the Rockies bullpen to make it 7-4. It was his 13th of the season and his second hit of the night off a lefty. "When youre facing a bunch of lefties it can get you right again because you have to stay on the baseball," Williams said. Reliever Craig Stammen (1-4) pitched a scoreless inning to get the win. Rafael Soriano worked the ninth for his 23rd save. The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the second on DJ LeMahieus RBI triple to right. Arenado made it 3-0 in the second with a two-run homer to centre. It was his seventh of the season and first since May 5. The Nationals got two back in the fourth before Dickersons solo shot to the upper deck off Jordan Zimmermann in the fifth made it 4-2. NOTES: LaRoche holds the franchise record for consecutive plate appearances reaching base safely with nine. ... LeMahieu finished with three hits. ... NEW YORK -- It was a goal literally years in the making, thanks to a shot Martin St. Louis works on day in day out. "The goal he scored tonight is exactly what you see him practise every time hes on the ice," said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. "Like 100 pucks, hes trying to put it right there." On Sunday night, St. Louis top-shelf snap shot from just below the faceoff dot was a dagger to the heart of the Canadiens. The goal, which came at 6:02 of overtime, moved New York within one win of its first Stanley Cup final in 20 years with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The win, which gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference final, marked the first time the home side had triumphed in the series. "I felt I had room (on the glove side), and I tried to trust what I saw, and obviously Ive gone to that side quite a bit that last few games and hes made some good saves on me," St. Louis said of Habs goalie Dustin Tokarski. "Sometimes you just have to keep trusting what you see and I was fortunate to get it by him." Said Tokarski: "I obviously gave him some room and he took advantage of it." Game 5 is Tuesday night in Montreal, with the Rangers looking to put the Canadiens to the sword for a third straight game at the Bell Centre. Carl Hagelin and Derick Brassard also scored for the Rangers, both on breakaways generated by stretch passes. Francis Bouillon and P.K. Subban -- who played 33:16 on the night -- scored for Montreal. The Rangers outshot the Canadiens 26-24 in regulation. Montreal had a 5-3 edge in overtime. The Canadiens will fly home full of regrets, especially after coming back twice to force overtime. The Montreal power play was one-for-eight and yielded a Rangers short-handed goal. "We had the opportunity on the power play and we didnt take advantage of it tonight," said coach Michel Therrien. "Yes, we scored a goal. It was a timely goal, but we gave up one and that was the (story) of the game. I thought our power play had to be better." And Montreals defensive play on the winning goal was shocking. The Canadiens had several chances to get the puck out of their defensive zone but couldnt do it. St. Louis had so much room he could have parked a Winnebago in the faceoff circle as tired defenders Andrei Markov and Alexei Emelin were caught on the wrong side of the play. "Well, we got a few chances to get out of it and move the puck harder in our own end, and it cost us the game," lamented Therrien. It was the third goal of the series for St. Louis, who attended the funeral of his mother between Games 1 and 2. He was buzzing all night, leading the Rangers with five shots on goal in 21:01 of ice time. The goal was his first playoff overtime winner since Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final on June 5, 2004 at Calgary as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. In a largely empty dressing room, the Canadiens looked for positives. They will have a rabid home crowd -- the best in the world, according to goalie Tokarski -- at their back Tuesday as they look to stave off elimination. "I dont think frustrated is the word," said Tokarski. "We had some chances, hit a post late and had a power play (in OT). Its a game of inches and we came short." Said Montreal captain Brian Gionta: "I thought Tokarski played great for us, gave us a chance to win that game. Were not out of the series by any means." History favours the Rangers, who are 12-1 in the 13 best-of-seven playoff series in which they led three games to one after Game 4. Montreal is 2-16 when trailing 3-1 in a playoff series. The last time they overturned such a deficit was in 2009-10 against Washington. But the Canadiens have already staved off elimination in these playoffs, reeling off two straight wins to defeat Boston four games to three in the previous round. "This is far from over," said Rangers forward Brad Richards. "I remember sitting in here down 3-1 against Pittsburgh. They will feel bad tonight, but tomorrow they will wake up in front of their home crowd and once that game starts 3-1, you throw that out the window and it is back in the battle again. "We have to realize the longer it goes the more life and more belief they get, so its going to be a very important start to the next game." Sundays win came 20 years to the day that the Rangers defeated New Jersey 4-2 in Game 6 of the Eastern final. New York captain Mark Messier, who had guaranteed the win, scored a natural hat trick that night. The Rangers went on to beat Vancouver for the Cup. Goalie Mike Richter and five other members of that championship team were in the stands Sunday. New York was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage but scored shorthanded through Hagelin. The Rangers took nine penalties -- including three straight in the third period and overtime -- to four for Montreal. Vigneault did not dispute any of the calls. "We put ourselves behind the 8-ball a few times by taking, I think it was five penalties 200 feet from our net. Were going to have to do a much better job than that," he said. "But give credit to our killers and our goaltender. They did a real good job." After Subban tied it at 2-2 two minutes into the third, Montreal forward Alex Galchenyuk rang one off the goal post with a little over three minutes remaining. He thought he scored but play continued. Replays showed Lundqvist got his stick to the puck before it hit the crossbar and bounced down -- in front of the goal-line. With New Yorks Derek Stepan recovering from a broken jaw suffered on a Brandon Prust hit in Game 3, Dominic Moore moved up to centre Rick Nash and Chris Kreider. Brassard returned from injury to centre Mats Zuccarello and Benoit Pouliot. J.T. Miller took the place of the suspended Dan Carcillo on the fourth line. For Montreal, Michael Bournival stepped in for the suspended Prust on the fourth line and Bouillon replaced defenceman Nathan Beaulieu. As in Game 3, Montreal found itself down 1-0 after a first period which could have been worse on the scoreboard. New York came into the game not having allowed a power-play goal in its last eight games (22 times shorthanded). And the penalty kill produced offence. The short-handed Rangers went ahead 12 seconds into a Pouliot penalty thanks to a Brian Boyle stretch pass from the blue-line. The speedy Hagelin broke in alone, faked a shot and tucked a backhand through the legs of Tokarski at 7:18 for his sixth of the playoffs. Montreals David Desharnais failed to corral a pass behind the New York goal and Ryan McDonagh poked the puck to Boyle to trigger the play. It was the Rangers first short-handed goal in 70 playoff games, dating back to April 9, 2008. The penalty count was three to one against the Rangers by the 10-minute mark, but the Canadiens power play was sputtering. Montreal began to push back after the goal and Brian Gionta had a glorious chance 12 minutes in on a Lundqvist rebound at the doorstep, but the puck bobbled and Lundqvists pad was there when the Montreal captain finally got control. Tokarski was buried by a sliding Nash five minutes into the second period but survived the collision. That prompted the officials to warn both benches about not crashing the crease. The New York-born Bouillon tied it up with a blistering shot from the top of a circle on a two-on-one with Desharnais after a nifty Rene Bourque pass between his legs. Lundqvist got a piece of it with his shoulder, but the puck still went in top corner glove side at 8:08. At times, the game was like table hockey with both sides looking to open up the other with long passes. Tokarski robbed St. Louis on a breakaway late in the period, catching the puck with his glove as if it was spring-loaded. The Rangers went ahead with 56 seconds remaining in the second when Dan Girardi found Brassard with a superb stretch pass from deep in his own end. Brassard raced in and unloaded a slapshot from the slot to beat Tokarski. Lundqvist picked up an assist, the first by a Rangers goalie in the playoffs since Richter on May 11, 1997. An early Montreal power play in the third -- its sixth man-advantage -- finally paid off when Subban hammered home a slapshot from the blue-line two minutes in. It was Subbans first point of the series -- and first in six games -- but also his fifth goal of the playoffs. Lundqvist recorded his 41st career playoff victory, tying him with Richter for first on the teams all-time playoff wins list. In the wake of a 3-0 loss to Olympiacos on Thursday, Milan coach Pippo Inzaghi pointed to a punishing schedule that had his team arrive at 2 a.m. the day of the game from New York after two days travel from Italy. "We didnt have a chance to train," Inzaghi said through an interpreter. "The players are trying their best." Olympiacos coach Michel, a stylish Spaniard who like Inzaghi had a distinguished playing career, found the travel schedule a little easier to accept thanks to the result. "When we get a win, we think a less about the fact that we are tired and that we had to travel a lot," he said through an interpreter. "But I understand what the Milan coach said. This is a really hard trip and we get really tired with it." Asked when his team had arrived in North America, Michael and his translator went back and forth until they could agree on Monday. "From Milan to New Jersey," said Michel, who touched down in Toronto on Wednesday morning. "We are a little lost," added the interpreter. Thursdays kickoff to the tournament was originally scheduled for New Yorks Citi Field before being shifted last month to Toronto. Charlie Stillitano, CEO of tournament organizer Relevent Sports, did not offer one specific reason for the move but said he initially thought the Toronto stadium would be unavailable because of the FIFA U-20 Womens World Cup. He also said New York was hosting other games and the switch gave his company a chance to partner with MLSE and take advantage of an expanded BMO Field in the future. Alejandro (Chori) Dominguez, Dimitris Diamantakos and Andreas Bouchalakis scored for Olympiacos, which was full value for the win in a game short on fireworks. The Greek side seemed to play at a higher tempo than the languid pace of Milan. The Italian team pressed later in the second half but was unable to take advantage before an announced crowd of 10,603 at BMO Field. One of those fans ran on the field late in the game and took a selfie with an Olympiacos player. He was escorted out after the photo op. Another fan then did it with a Milan player, taking a tumble en route. Two more were grabbed before they could follow suit. Olympiacos outshot Milan 10-8 (4-2 in shots on target). The eight-team tournament runs through Aug. 4 with games in Ann Arbor, Mich., Berkeley, Calif., Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. Milan and Olympiacos are joined in Group B by Liverpool and Manchester City. Group A features Inter Milan, Manchester United, AS Roma and Real Madrid. The two group leaders will meet in Miami for the title. Mercurial Milan striker Mario Balotelli was not in uniform, perhaps saved for Sundays meeting with his former club Manchester City in Pittsburgh. Fans chanted "We want Balo" minutes into the match. The Italian star, along with Ghanaian teammate Michael Essien, watched the match from a box. Inzaghi said Balotelli did not play since he had only three training sessions with the team after the World Cup. Balotelli has been in the headdlines over a possible transfer, with reports he wanted an annual salary of five million pounds after taxes to join Englands Arsenal.dddddddddddd But Milan officials denied there had been a bid from the north London club. Balotelli, meanwhile, posted a somewhat bizarre Instagram video this week that showed him dancing while ironing and reading former Inter Milan teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovics autobiography. The video was accompanied by a note: .KnowledgeIsPower reading books is cool?? .StayInSchoolKids. His Instagram account also included a thank you to Toronto FC for giving him a jersey and for letting Milan train at "our magnificent KIA training centre!" Of course, Balotelli could also tweet from experience that setting off fireworks in your bathroom is unwise. In 2011, two fire crews were reportedly needed to put out a blaze at his English home. Veteran Italian international striker Giampaolo Pazzini started up front for Milan. The Serie A clubs midfield featured 19-year-old Bryan Cristante, an Italian-born midfielder who holds a Canadian passport thanks to his fathers bloodlines. Forward Hachim Mastour, who turned 16 last month, started on the bench. Milan signed the starlet from Reggiana for a reported 500,000 euros (C$723,550) when he was 14. Mastour, born in Italy to Moroccan parents, did put on a halftime show playing with the ball as if it was on a string as the reserves warmed up. Dominguez opened the scoring for the Greek side in the 16th minute on a nice cross from French winger Mathieu Dossevi that caught the Milan defence napping. Dominguez, a veteran Argentine, brought the ball down and sent a right-footed shot past 21-year-old Brazilian keeper Gabriel. Olympiacos came close to going up 2-0 in the 39th minute but Thanasis Papazoglous header off a corner was cleared off the goal-line by a Milan defender. Milan midfielder Andrea Poli threatened in the first half but he couldnt quite get his head to a cross. Pazzini came close twice late in the first half, inches away from getting hold of a pair of dangerous crosses. Diamantakos upped the lead in the 49th minute, angling in a cross from Frances Arthur Masuaku as Olympiacos punished some slack Milan defending. Riccardo Saponara hit the goalpost minutes later on a Milan rare attack. Bouchalakis scored for Olympiacos against the run of play in the 78th minute, on a long-range left-footed rocket of a shot. French international centre back Philippe Mexes, Brazils Alex and Japanese star Keisuke Honda were among Milans second-half substitutes. Milan finished eighth in Serie A last season with a 16-13-9 record. Olympiacos won the Greek title with a 28-4-2 campaign. Milan jerseys far outnumbered those of Olympiacos but a pocket of chanting Greek fans made their presence felt in the northeast corner of the stadium. They celebrated the win with a flare that would have lit up a mine shaft. It was a sparse crowd after Wednesdays sellout of 22,000-plus for Toronto FC versus Tottenham. The upper tier of the West stand was closed off for Thursdays game and there was just a handful of fans in the north stand behind the goal. Olympiacos faces Liverpool in Chicago on Sunday. Real Madrid won the inaugural final last year, defeating Chelsea 3-1 before 67,273 fans in Miami. TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays will try to capture a second straight game versus the rival New York Yankees with Mark Buehrle set to take the hill Tuesday in the middle portion of a three-game home series. With a win tonight, Buehrle will match Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka for the most wins in the majors with 11. Buehrle is 10-4 with a 2.32 earned run average, but has lost his last three starts, including a 7-3 setback at Yankee Stadium last Wednesday. Buehrle allowed three runs -- two earned -- and six hits in six innings. He has served up a home run in each of his previous three starts and hasnt fared too well in his career against New York, going 1-11 with a 5.84 ERA in 17 starts. Buehrle is 5-2 in seven starts at home this season. The Blue Jays returned home to start a nine-game stay and kicked off the residency with Mondays 8-3 victory over the Yanks. Adam Lind hit a three-run homer during a six-run second inning and finished with four RBI, while Edwin Encarnacion collected three hits. Marcus Stroman pitched well to pick up the win and limited the Yankees to a run and three hits in eight innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. "Actually getting going was fine, its the slowing down," Stroman said. Toronto is 1 1/2 games ahead of Baltimore and 2 1/2 in front on New York for the AL East lead and will also host the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers on this homestand. The Jays, who won for the second time in the last seven tries, are 21-17 as the host. The Yankees have lost three in a row since winning four straight and didnt get much help from Chase Whitley on the mound last night. Whitley was tagged for eight runs and 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings. "I couldnt command the ball at all," Whitley said. "I couldnt execute the pitches I wanted to throw." Mark Teixeira homered for the Yankees. Taking the mound for New York Tuesday will be David Phelps. Phelps is 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA and has won back-to-back outings after losing the previous four. In a 6-4 triumph over the Blue Jays last Thursday, Phelps delivered seven innings of two-run ball, struck out seven and walked two. Phelps, a right-hander, is 3-0 with a 3.96 ERA in nine career games (4 starts) against Toronto. The Yankees are 5-2 against the Blue Jays this season. Braylon Edwards College Jersey . The Winnipeg Goldeyes bats were hot early in their final exhibition game on Tuesday night against the Kansas City T-Bones. The Goldeyes scored eight of their 10 runs in the first two innings, led by Donnie Webb who drove in three over the first two innings. From there the Goldeyes pitching staff took over only giving up one run in the eighth inning. Making the final a 10-1 win for the Goldeyes as they took both exhibition games against the T-Bones. It started with Tyler Kuhn, at the top of the batting order, leading off the first inning with a double. He then came around to score on a two-run homerun hit by Ray Sadler. Reggie Abercrombie then got on base with a double of his own and was driven in by Webb. The offense continued to role in the second with the first three Goldeyes batters all reaching base and all eventually coming around to score. Sadler then got on base with a walk, and he, along with Josh Mazzola — who reached base on a single — were the two runners Webb batted in in the second. The Goldeyes took a commanding 8-0 lead through the bottom of the second. The every batter in the Goldeyes lineup got a hit in the game, with six players getting multiple hits, including Mazzola who went three for five. Then the Goldeyes ninth run came in the fifth inning after Webb reached base on a walk and Alen hit a RBI double. The T-Bones scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth against Goldeyes pitcher Gabe Aguilar. But the Goldeyes would reclaim their nine run lead in the top of the ninth with Mazzola scoring his second run on a RBI single from Casey Haerther.  The Goldeyes had seven different pitchers take the mound to face the T-Bones batters, and they held the Kansas City side to only six hits. Alex De La Cruz who came in during the sixth inning was looking to bounce back from a tough outing in Lincoln on the weekend. He pitched for one full inning, giving up one walk and recording a strikeout. "Coming in in the middle of the inning with runners on base, getting those guys out, that is what you want from your bullpen guys," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said of De La Crux on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "He came out and got a few quick outs, its nice to see him bounce back after getting roughed up in Lincoln." The Goldeyes finish their exhibition schedule with a 5-1 record, and had one game rained out. "We got the innings in that we wanted to," said Vermilyea of the exhibition slate. "Pitchers got to see batters, and batters got to get a feel for the batters box." Now Winnipeg travels to Amarillo as they prepare to open the regular season on Thursday against the Sox at Amarillo National Bank Stadium. "Heading into Amirallo, we just hope to keep this going," said Vermilyea of the teams offensive and defensive production. Air Jordan 6 Canada Online . KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Michelle Wie rallied from four strokes back entering the day to shoot a 5-under 67 on Saturday and win the LPGA LOTTE Championship. The 24-year-old American finished at 14-under 274 after coming into the final round trailing third-round leader Angela Stanford by four shots after Fridays play. It was Wies third career victory on the LPGA Tour, and first since taking the CN Canadian Womens Open in 2010 -- snapping a 79-event winless drought. And, Wie did it at home. "Im just having fun out there," said Wie, who grew up in Honolulu. "I was out there and nervous. Every time I felt nervous out there, I was looking around, I felt there was no place Id rather be." Stanford had her worst round of the tournament, shooting a 1-over 73 that put her at 12-under 276 and two shots behind Wie. Top-ranked Inbee Park finished third with an 11-under 277. "Today, just didnt make the putts that Ive been making," Stanford said. "I wasnt hitting it great today. Just misclubbed a couple of times. Just didnt make good decisions." Wie came to LOTTE and her home state of Hawaii coming off a runner-up finish two weeks ago in the Kraft Nabisco Championship when she closed with a 71 for her best position of the season. "The highlight of this week was to come back home," Wie said. "There wasnt just one moment. From the first tee shot that I made to the last putt, the aloha that I felt from everyone was unbelievable." Stanford, the leader after the second and third rounds at breezy Ko Olina, came out strong with a birdie on the par-4 third hole to set herself up at 14-under early in the day. A bogey for Stanford and a birdie for Wie on the par-4 sixth closed the gap to within a stroke. The par-3 eighth brought Stanford, Wie and South Koreas Hyo Joo Kim to tie at 12 under. A birdie for Wie on the par-3 12th gave her the outright lead, and she gave a small triumphant fist pump to the crowd. "I really think a lot of times, they willed the ball in," Wie said of the fans. "I give a lot of credit to them this week." Another birdie on the par-5 13th put Wie two strokes ahead of two-day leader Stanford and three strokes ahead of Kim. Stanford and Kim were unable to close that gap as Wie won for the first time on American soil. "Shes been playing great," Stanford said. "Shes having a great year, so it was bound to happen. I just happened to be the one that caught the buzz saw." Trade winds continued to challenge golfers all day, gusting upward of 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service. "Well, my caddy isnt one for pep talks, but he gave a good one today," Wie said. "He said, Its windy out there today, but play your game, and thats really what I did. I didnt try to force anything. I had a number in my head that I thought I needed to shoot, and I got it. Kim came in fourth with 1-under 71 for 10-under 278 overall. Dumont scored in the opening minute of the third period to give his club a 2-1 lead after tying the game late in the second. Maxime Macenauer added an empty netter to clinch the win. Dustin Tokarski made 26 saves in the victory. Since losing in a shootout to Abbotsford on Dec. 22, Hamilton (17-14-4) has won five straight games, moving into seventh place in the Western Conference. Markus Granlund scored for Abbotsford (23-11-2), while Joey MacDonald stopped 24 shots in the loss. The Heat opened the scoring at 11:31 of the first thanks to a great effort and a little luck. Kane Lafranchise stretched to keep a puck onside during a power play, skated in and tried to pass it in front. The centring feed deflected off a Bulldog stick right to Granlund, who roofed it on Tokarski for his 14th of thhe season.dddddddddddd Mike Blunden was the most dangerous Bulldog in the first period, hitting the post in the opening minutes and then getting two quality cracks with less than 20 seconds left. He one-timed a feed from Martin St. Pierre from the low slot, which MacDonald kicked out, and then MacDonald gobbled up the rebound attempt by Blunden to sustain the Heats lead heading into the intermission. But a smooth move by Blunden led to the equalizer in the second period. Nick Tarnasky rang the puck behind the net to Blunden, who pulled it out front and quickly put a shot on net. Dumont was in the crease to chip the puck home for his first of the game at 16:48. Dumont gave his club the lead just 49 seconds into the third. Sven Andrighetto walked off the boards and took a shot on net. Better. Faster. Stronger. St. Louis was all that and more for most of a cold March night. They dealt the sliding Leafs their sixth straight loss – seven in the past eight games – and a very loud exit from the current playoff picture. Once on firm ground toward a second straight trip to the postseason, Toronto now sits 10th in the East, trailing Columbus and Detroit for the final two wild card spots with only eight games left to play. Skidding for nearly two weeks without even a single point they are in danger of fumbling away what seemed like a sure thing. Fear of that reality, it seems, is slowly infecting the group. "Well, certainly were afraid of letting it slip away," Joffrey Lupul conceded after a 5-3 loss to the Blues, the Leafs winless since Mar. 13.  "The whole year we thought we were a playoff team and we still believe that now." At this moment, however, they are not. And what once seemed unthinkable as recently as two weeks prior when they stormed through California has now become a very real reality. The Leafs may not make the playoffs and they know it. And that fear of fumbling it away is driving the nerves of a flailing group. Head coach Randy Carlyle observed "tenseness" during the first half of Wednesdays game, one that saw St. Louis completely manhandle their sinking opponents, especially so in a dominant first frame. Big, hard, fast and strong, the best team in the West controlled possession of the puck almost without exception, peppering Jonathan Bernier with 23 shots while scoring the first two of four unanswered. "Its like we were frozen for 30 minutes of the hockey game," Carlyle said. "We didnt pick up the puck and skate with it at all. And thats showing signs of being nervous, tense, [lacking] confidence, not wanting to make a mistake which led to more offensive zone time [for the Blues]." Only when the score tilted at 4-1 did they start to push back and in a well-repeated theme, muster the kind of tenaciousness and enthusiasm required for winning at this time of year. Carl Gunnarsson and James van Riemsdyk scored to slice the deficit to one, but like those rallies in each of the previous five losses, the Leafs ultimately ran out of time. Desperation was just a little too late. "Right now it seems like when we get down then were playing with no fear," Lupul said. "Theres something to be said about being down and not having that fear anymore, but realistically weve got to play like that right from the start. Its more of a psychological thing than it is a physical thing for sure." Whether they can overcome that imposing mental hurdle and recover in time to make the playoffs remains an increasingly uncertain question. With stumbling starts, glaring defensive breakdowns, inconsistent offence and poor goaltending, theyve found ways to lose hockey games in rapid order and are feeling the pressure from it. Losing six straight for the first time since the infamous 18-wheeler collapse in 2012, the Leafs now they sit on the outside of the playoff picture with a daunting weekend set ahead against the Flyers and Red Wings. Their fate could be determined in a matter of days. "Theres reason for concern, but its not completely time to panic," Lupul said. "Were still right there. Weve got a game Friday, we play Detroit [on] Saturday, you win those two games and all of a sudden things look a lot different." Five Points: 1. Berniers Back Even Bernier – making his first start since Mar. 13 – couldnt rescue the Leafs from the Blues. And he tried. The 25-year-old was spectacular early on, turning away the first 20 St. Louis shots in a one-sided opening frame. He eventually ceded four goals on 48 shots. It was just his third loss in regulation when facing 40 shots or more (8-3-2).  Bernier had missed the previous five games with a groin injury, rushing back to stabilize the Leafs wobbling crease. "Lot of work, but felt okay," he said afterward. Stretching constantly, in between whistles and during TV timeouts, Bernier was seemingly shy of 100 per cent, but surely felt the need to return with his teams chances of reaching the postseason flailing. Asked if he rushed back from the injury, Bernier said, "You always want to be back as soon as possible."  "It was a little sore obviously, but I was just trying to get it loose a little bit in between whistles and timeouts." 2/3. Ready to Start? Scoring first didnt help the Leafs much on this night. They scored the first goal for the first time in eight games with Lupul tucking a Nazem Kadri pass beyond Ryan Miller on a power-play, but it was down-hill from there. Alrready owning possession for much of the period to that point, the Blues tied the proceedings at one when T.ddddddddddddJ. Oshie squeezed a rebound through the pads of Bernier. They went in front for good on the first of three from David Backes on a power-play, Dion Phaneuf failing to clear the puck adequately. St. Louis had 23 shots for the period, the most Toronto has allowed in any one period this season. "Thats a heck of a hockey team over there," van Riemsdyk said. "The way they play, lines 1-4, [defence] pairings 1-3, theres not much of a falloff. They kept coming. Thats no excuse for us. We have to find a way to get off to a better start." Strong and sturdy, the Blues cycled and cycled and cycled without giving the Leafs even a taste of the puck. "We couldnt break their cycle," Lupul said. "We couldnt get the puck." It was the kind of grinding performance Carlyle would like to see more from his team in Toronto. "They did a lot of things that were trying to convince our hockey club to do as far as hanging onto the puck a little bit more," he said. "We understand were not as big and strong and as physical as some of those teams that are able to do that, but thats more of the style this time of year – if you watch the games – thats whats being played." The Leafs are now 8-20-4 when they trail after the opening period. "Again we played 30 minutes of hockey tonight and showed that we can play, but wheres the 60 minutes?" Carlyle said. "We cannot afford to not start the way weve been starting. We have to have more of an effort or consistent, confident start than weve had in these games." 4. Phaneuf Phaneuf played fewer than 21 minutes and had what may have been his worst game of the season. The Toronto captain was on the ice and largely responsible for three of the first four St. Louis goals, having what Carlyle described as a "rough night". The 28-year-old made his first error late in the first, fumbling away an opportunity to clear the puck on a penalty kill, the Blues regrouping to score the first of three from Backes. Then early in the middle frame Phaneuf lost a puck battle with Alex Steen in the offensive zone. Lagging to get back defensively, he was beaten down the ice by Backes, the Blues captain eluding Bernier for the third St. Louis marker. About 10 minutes after that it was Steen muscling Phaneuf to the ice just outside Berniers crease, shaking free to whistle a backhand just under the bar for a 4-1 lead. Phaneuf was unavailable to media after the game. 5. Six-Game Skid Losing a bunch of close games, prior to Wednesday night, Lupul believed the Leafs had actually played better at points in their slide than in many victories this season. "Absolutely," said Lupul before the loss to St. Louis. "We track scoring chances – our team does – and were out-chancing teams every night. You can look at that and say were doing some things right, but its the time of the year that that doesnt really matter anymore, its all about wins. Youve got to translate that into getting more wins." The 30-year-old observed that the margin for winning and losing at this time of year is "really close". "Its been a topic of discussion in here," he said. "Were generating chances. Were not giving up near as many as we have, but were coming out on the wrong side of the game so that doesnt really matter. "And on the flip side when we were winning games and getting out-chanced we were saying the same thing in here, like come on, what are we doing? But now its the time of the year that it doesnt really matter how you get the job done it just needs to get done." Stats-Pack 1-7-0 – Leafs record in the past eight games. 23 – Shots allowed by the Leafs in the opening period Wednesday, the most of any period this season. 8 – Fights for David Clarkson this season. Pointless now in 23 of the past 25 games, Clarkson fought Brendan Morrow in the second period. 7-23 – Tyler Bozak in the faceoff circle against the Blues, hammered by the combination of Steen and Vladimir Sobotka. 1 – Six-game losing streak for the Leafs this season. 2 – Goals for James van Riemsdyk in the past 12 games, van Riemsdyk notching his 28th this season in defeat. Special Teams Capsule PP: 1-3Season: 21% (3rd) PK: 2-3Season: 78.5% (28th) Quote of the Night "Theres reason for concern, but its not completely time to panic." -Joffrey Lupul, following the Leafs sixth consecutive loss.
